Alone again

Saw her at the same table

Where I’d met her a year ago

My lady in Red

I said a cheery Hello!

There was something amiss

I was not quite sure what it was

Till she looked at me and smiled

A smile that quite didn’t reach her eyes

And said ‘He’s left me’

I was stunned to say the least

She’d lost her companion

Of twenty one years

To a chit of a girl

Twenty years younger than her!
